Does Distance Reiki Work as Well as In-Person?

Yep! Okay, are we done here? Great.

Kidding! Well, not about the “yep” part.

If you aren’t familiar, “distance” or remote reiki is just what it sounds like: the practitioner and the client are not in the same physical space during the session. They may connect over phone, Zoom, or text during the session, but even this is not required.

Why is that? Because energy is universal. On a fundamental level, everything is one. People and objects may appear to be separate entities with space between them. But they are all part of one energetic field. When we perform reiki, we’re simply concentrating a particular elevated frequency of that energy with the intention that it will be felt by a certain person at a certain time and place. I’m located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. I’ve been part of distance healing sessions with folks here in my city, all over the U.S., and abroad in the UK and Australia.

People naturally wonder whether distance reiki sessions are as effective as in-person sessions. My experience as both a practitioner and a client is that they are. The receiver will feel the energy remotely in the same way as if during an in-person session. And of course, modern technology means that communication between healer and receiver is as easy as it’s ever been.

The one factor that can make a slight difference between a remote or in-person session has to do with the environment. Realistically, sometimes it’s beneficial to get out of your house and away from your usual life distractions, am I right? That’s where people sometimes prefer the in-person experience, and it’s valid. On the other hand, the ability to do sessions remotely makes reiki much more accessible to people. That includes folks with limited mobility and those who are able to travel but don’t have the time. (Or, here in the north country, those who don’t want to drive in the snow we get half the year.)

Knowing that part of the fun of reiki is the ability to disengage from usual life for a bit, when I perform distance sessions, I encourage my clients to set aside a time when they’re unlikely to be disturbed by the goings-on of their household, like pets or kids. Being distracted or even engaged in activity during a reiki session won’t interfere with the healing itself. Reiki will continue to be channeled and benefiting the receiver. We can still focus on the client’s intentions or relieving particular physical or mental pains. But the point of reiki is that it’s relaxing, and I want clients to feel the full effect of that. You probably won’t if you’re trying to vacuum or help the kids with their homework at the same time.

Another good reason to set aside some alone time during distance sessions is that energy healing tends to bring about beneficial awareness as well. Meaning clients sometimes have “aha” moments and insights about their lives, needs, and relationships. Sometimes they feel a connection to a passed loved one. Being in a quiet place during the distance session means that clients are more likely to have and fully appreciate these amazing aspects of energy healing.

So to recap, the basic answer to the question is that, yes, distance reiki works as well as in-person healings. Even in our current times, with so much of life being done from home, or when life has you limited on time and travel, you can experience the relaxation and benefits of an energy healing session.
