How Does a Distance Reiki Session Work?

Many energy healing practitioners do “distance” or remote sessions. If you’ve never experienced this kind of healing, you might be wondering how it works or if it’s as effective as in-person.

First of all, as both a distance healer and frequent recipient of remote energy healings, I can say that it works very well! Energy is universal; it doesn’t know physical distance. When you receive a remote healing, you’ll feel the same benefits as you would in person as the practitioner channels reiki into your subtle body and works to clear cords and negative energy.

So, how does the session go? Here’s the typical process.

  • First, we'll hop on the phone for a few minutes and talk about what you're experiencing and looking for from the session.

  • As the client, you just need to find a quiet place to sit or lie down for the duration of the session. Your couch, bed, recliner, or meditation cushion are good options. Music playing in the background is okay, but try to remove distractions like pets, kids, TV, etc.

  • Once we’ve checked in, I’ll start channeling the energy. I usually keep the phone muted, and clients can sit back and soak it in. I may check in once or twice just to ask how you’re feeling, particularly if you’re a new client.

  • If a client has a meditation practice or wants to use this time for that, we may do a guided meditation for some or all of the session while the energy is being channeled. If that’s not you, most clients prefer to be totally passive, and falling asleep is common. This doesn’t interfere with the session, and may help if you need it!

  • At the end of the session, we'll take a couple minutes to chat again. I'll share if any insights came up during the energy work that could be helpful for you to know. I’ll also invite you to share what the experience was like for you and ask questions if you have them.

How to prepare for your session

There’s nothing you need to do to prepare other than be able to sit or lie down in a quiet place. Here are a few optional things you can do to get the most out of it:

  • Use the bathroom shortly before your session starts.

  • Have a glass of water nearby.

  • Have a playlist ready on your device if you’d like to listen to music.

  • If you can, schedule your session so you don’t have to rush off to your responsibilities immediately afterward. You’ll be feeling relaxed, and you probably won’t want to jump right into life. Of course, it’s okay if this isn’t possible. It’s just nice to plan for if you can.

Distance vs. In-Person

Although the energetic benefits of a distance reiki session are the same as in-person healings, both distance and in-person have their own advantages. In-person sessions can be a nice way to get out of the house and be removed from the distractions of every-day life. But remote sessions are convenient for those who are in a time crunch or want to skip the stress of a commute. Some clients prefer distance because it gives them the ability to remain in their own controlled space. And of course, in times like these when in-person gatherings are not recommended due to the COVID-19 pandemic,  distance sessions are a safe way to continue caring for yourself mentally, physically, and spiritually.

Distance sessions can take place from anywhere in the world. I’m located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, but I have worked with clients all over. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you’d like to learn more or set up a session!

As of 2021, I am not offering in-person healing sessions. I hope to occasionally offer in-person sessions to my Minneapolis/St. Paul-based clients again in the near future when it is safe to do so.
